Become A Living Liver Donor

It might seem like an intimidating process to become a living liver donor, but the recovery time from surgery is usually a few weeks long, and your expenses for doing this are taken care of (be it by the government or any of the fundraising we do) So let’s go with the specifics first when it comes to Salim.

The key point to understand is that you have to be between the ages of 18-60, you have to have any blood type in the B or O blood group & that you can name a specific recipient for a portion of your liver. Your assessment to be a candidate will also mean a series of tests & questions about your medical history. For your safety, they need to make sure that you’re healthy enough for the procedure so that your recovery goes smooth.

Hello, it’s Salim

You’ll undergo a series of tests after your initial screening. You do not have to live in Toronto for this process or procedure. If you live all the way across the country but you’re a healthy candidate to be a living liver donor, your travel expenses & accomodations will be paid for.

We’ve had a couple of individuals start the process to become a living liver donor, but unfortunately, they weren’t the right match.

There are four links below. Click on the first link and you will be taken to you to the Living Liver Donor Evaluation page.

But if I can’t be a living liver donor, are there other ways I can help?

Absolutely!

You can donate to the Fundraiser for Salim to help pay for his rent, food and medication at the button below:

But what if I don’t have the money to donate? Is there something else I can do?

Absolutely, Again!

At the time of writing this, I & a group of my friends, and friends of Salim, are figuring out what kind of outreach we can do in our individual communities, from community groups and workplaces to places of worship, we’re trying to see how we can spread the word of how people can be a living organ donor. There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding transplants for a liver or a kidney while the donor is alive. People don’t know that they can give that gift of life to someone else while maintaining a high quality of life themselves after a short period of recovery from surgery.

You probably have an idea or a way to help we haven’t figured out yet, so talk to me. Say hello to me at the email addresses below and let’s start a dialogue and see how I can help you. You might have a friend or family member who is also in need of a living organ transplant and if there’s a way to help them, let’s figure that out together too. Find me (rahim) at:

But do you have something I can distribute to people NOW to spread the word?

YES!

Fill out the form you see below. Send us a direct message as to what you can do. We’re preparing everything from flyers, magnets, shirts - I’ve got a good contact list of volunteers who have come on board to help with my brother. The thing that was holding us back was money (& money is still an issue) so what I’ve done is barter with some of the people I’ve worked with where the costs for such things can be covered.

SO, if you want to do outreach in your community, distribute flyers or magnets, speak at any community meetings or share information with your workplace, fill out the form below, tell us a little more and I’ll get back to you and we’ll get right on it!
